Bounce Back
Life can become rough and tough some days. We can find ourselves becoming negative and can fall into the “glass half-empty” pattern of thinking. This can especially happen when we are trying to maintain our healthy habits. It can become discouraging when we don’t reach our goals in a timely fashion, or we have a bad weekend of binging and we find ourselves slipping up and convincing ourselves that it doesn’t matter anymore.
The key is knowing how to bounce back from these times. We need to learn how to become better and react better the next time, because the reality is… things aren’t always rainbows and sunshine. Check out some methods for turning a bad situation into a positive and not throwing yourself off track in the meantime.
- Picture yourself doing what you want to do – Okay, it’s not realistic that we’re going to be amazing at everything 100% of the time. But visualizing what we’d like to achieve can help us embrace that image and become the person we’d like to be. Practice being active, practice being healthy… practice accomplishing what you want to accomplish.
- Only be around positive people – We all have those friends who tend to be on the negative side and, as they say, misery loves company. Negativity can make the situation worse. Find a group of friends or acquaintances that will hold you accountable but will also cheer you on along the way. Positivity is contagious and so is being healthy.
- Check your own thoughts – Reflect inside. We are our own biggest critic. Research has shown that when you find yourself thinking negative, write it down on a piece of paper and throw it away. Mentally, you’ll throw the thought away too! Get rid of the bad thoughts inside yourself and you’ll see a difference.
Now these strategies take time, however, they can truly influence not only our health and fitness goals, but also our life in general. This week… try to practice at least one of these skills and see what happens!
