Our Denver Digestive Health Specialists Provide Lasting Healing Solutions to Leaky Gut in Denver

A Unique Approach to Leaky Gut in Denver

Consider this: If you had a rock in your shoe that hurt your toe every time you took a step, what would you do? Would you just take an aspirin to relieve the pain? Or would you address the underlying problem and shake out the rock?

Similarly, our clinic is passionate about helping our members “remove the rock” to become empowered and independent. But first, we will conduct a comprehensive examination to help you understand the underlying issues affecting your gut health. We’ll discuss some potential underlying reasons why you’re feeling so inflamed. And at the end, we’ll give you a fantastic opportunity to come for a one-on-one consultation at our clinic.

Underlying Causes of Poor Gut Health:

Why is Gut Health So Important?

“Leaky gut,” a digestive health condition otherwise known as “Intestinal Hyperpermeability,” is where the lining of the intestines becomes damaged and allows toxins and harmful bacteria to leak into the bloodstream. If you’re experiencing symptoms like consistent bloating, diarrhea, and fatigue, you might want to get checked for leaky gut.

The importance of gut health for your overall health and well-being can hardly be overemphasized. Your gut is home to trillions of good and bad bacteria that play a crucial role in digestion, immune function, and mental health. When the balance of bacteria in the gut is disrupted, it can lead to various health problems, including inflammatory bowel disease, autoimmune disorders, and even depression and anxiety.

Therefore, maintaining good gut health is essential for overall digestive health and well-being. A healthy gut can improve digestion, boost the immune system, and promote better mental health. Eating a balanced diet rich in fiber, prebiotics, and probiotics, getting enough sleep, and managing stress are essential for maintaining good gut health.

At Trivida Functional Medicine, our functional medicine experts and digestive health specialists will provide lasting healing solutions for treating your leaky gut. Our approach to leaky gut treatment in Denver typically includes recommending a healthy diet, reducing stress, and taking supplements.

Gut Health Treatment Options

There are many ways to disrupt your gut health.  A typical American:

Eats an inflammatory diet.

  • Rinses with anti-bacterial mouthwash, which sweeps away both bad and good bacteria in your mouth.
  • Pops an antacid medicine when they feel heartburn coming on.
  • Are exposed to countless chemicals in the foods they eat and the products they use.
  • Takes antibiotics regularly.

While antibiotics can be lifesaving, of course, taking an antibiotic kills both the bad and the good bacteria in your gut, destroying your microbiome.

Nutrition plays a major role in gut health issues.  Foods like sugar, trans fat, refined carbohydrates, artificial sweeteners, and alcohol (just to name a few) are all known inflammatory foods.

Incredibly, your gut’s intestinal lining covers more than 4,000 square feet – larger than a tennis court! When working properly, this huge absorptive surface forms a tight barrier that controls what gets into the bloodstream. An unhealthy gut – from stress, chronic inflammation, infections, autoimmunity, and certain foods – may have damaged or widened “junctions” that allow partially digested food, toxins, and bacteria through the intestinal lining triggering more inflammation, changes in the gut microbiome, and other health concerns.  This is known as heightened intestinal permeability and “leaky gut”. Studies show that leaky gut is associated with autoimmune diseases such as lupus and MS, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, arthritis, allergies, asthma, acne, obesity, and even mental illness.

Leaky gut can be repaired, but there’s no one anti-inflammatory diet that will suit everyone.   It’s also important to consider food sensitivities, which are very different than food allergies. Food sensitivities are more chronic, less acute, and often more difficult to diagnose because of delayed reactions – the offending food may not cause a reaction for up to 3 day later.  At our clinic, we utilize advanced blood work and a detox to customize a person’s diet and ensure they feel the best they can.

Nutrition

We analyze what foods might be causing inflammation or aren’t particularly good for your body based on the tests. We won’t put you on a fat diet, but on the right diet for you that can be a catalyst for healing the root causes of your health issues.

Hormones

Hormones are critical communicators between systems in our bodies. But just like talking on the phone when someone has a bad cell signal, our body has the same frustrated response when hormones aren’t communicating effectively. Our testing looks at over 20 hormones.

Stress

We look for inflammation that is caused by physical and chemical stress. Physical stress can come from over or under exercising, body aches and pain, or a lack of quality sleep. Chemical stress comes from food sensitivities or environmental toxins like allergens or mold.

Detoxification

Don’t worry, this isn’t going to be a juice cleanse or fad diet. Detoxification is helping the body prioritize getting rid of physical and chemical stress. Together we would work to get your body to sleep better as a natural form of detoxification.

Mobility & Exercise

Exercise is important, we all know that. But we want to find the type of exercise that is best for your specific body. For example, someone with a thyroid issue may want to lose weight, so they go to some HIIT classes at the gym after which, they’re exhausted and actually gained weight! We’ll guide you to reach your fitness goals - no more guessing.
