Smoothie Series: Kale Ginger

Smoothies are a great way to get your produce and extra nutrition in the morning. The Frozen banana and and avocado in here are the secret weapons to achieve ice-cream-like creaminess, and knock down the salad-y flavor. Chia seeds amp up fiber and protein, plus they’re one of the richest plant sources of heart-healthy alpha-linoleic acid (an omega-3 fatty acid). So give it a try!

Place all ingredients in a blender; process until smooth.

1 cup roughly torn lacinato kale

1 medium-size frozen banana

1 cup unsweetened almond milk

1/2 cup plain 2% reduced-fat Greek yogurt

1 teaspoon chia seeds

1/4 ripe avocado

1/2 teaspoon sliced peeled fresh ginger

Adapted from cooking light
